GAY CONSERVATIVE LIBERAL: PERVERSE LITTLE MISERBALIST
"What is it about Americans that makes us feel immortal? When did we lose our sense of vulnerability and instead stare down the prospect of imminent death with a smugness befitting thugs and animals?"
-GayConservativeLiberal
During the last six months or so, I have been a regular visitor to the GayConservativeLiberal blog. Andrew Sullivan made the recommendation via his own blog. The title sounded promising. But he proved to be nothing but a GAYLEFTWINGNUTCASE. Although I have found his posts to be mildly annoying, I have enjoyed correcting his false statements and calling him out on his "America is the enemy" rants, his "tax our way to freedom" raves, and his "do as I say, not as I do" hypocrisy. Recently, for example, he threw a fit because Newt Gingrich equated bi-lingual education with teaching the language of the ghetto. GCL pounced on the word "ghetto," complaining that it was an inflammatory word, and called Mr. Gingrich a bigot. However, he made no reference to his own apparently inflammatory language when he referred to the Miss Universe Pageant as the Ghetto Prom. This is only one mildly annoying example.
However, his most recent post, here finally exposes him as the horrible, perverse, corrupt little man that he is. In the wake of the horrible bloodshed at Virginia Tech, the GAY(conservative)LIBERAL lashes out at "stupid Americans" who bring this violence upon themselves. (the post is labeled with the term "Stupid Americans")
Stupid Americans? Is he referring to the 32 stupid Americans who lost their lives in the violence? Is he referring to the stupid American heroes who fought back (without weapons) and saved as many as a dozen lives? Or is he referring to the stupid American Holocaust survivor who threw himself in front of the gunman so that all of the students in his class could, and did, escape?
I suppose it's expecting to much that he is referring to the Stupid Fucking Korean American who unleashed this horror! To a Miserablist, it's unthinkable that a minority immigrant whose sick fantasies flourished under the permissive (i.e. multicultural) protection of the campus could be responsible for his own actions.
He also suggests that the story simply serves as "info-tainment" fodder for the 24 hour news channels.
GAY(conservative)LIBERAL- vile, disgusting, perverse, little Miserablist.

But when I call this behavior reckless and ignorant, I get told that I have double standards and that I'm a hypocrite. Or maybe I realize that common sense dictates that while straight people should avoid certain words to make their points heard.
As for my post about the V-Tech shootings, I'm really disappointed by your narrow interpretation of my writing. I was using the tragedy there to highlight our country's lemming mentality. Think about it, we have terror alerts that cover the spectrum but one day, out of nowhere, a wacko just ended 32 lives in the single bloodiest attack on our soil since 9-11. But the minute the gun debate comes up, everyone thinks it's only left-wing alarmists who want to curb everyone's 2nd ammendment right to kill. And then you go on to my blog to pair gay marriage into a debate on guns. JHB, it's my right to be happy and marry my partner and I know you agree with me -- yet that freedom, for you, is tied to the right to buy a gun? Why? That makes NO sense.
I will continue to be a fan of your blog and your own brand of snarky commentary. I'm commenting here to extend an olive branch to make sure we can still debate the issues and talk about them as adults without resorting to name calling and hostility.
Thank you for the comments.
Rest assured that I will continue to read your blog as well. However, you and I totally disagree on how best to secure our freedom, both from external and internal forces. I will continue to call you out whenever I feel compelled to do so. Believe it or not, I look forward to your posts.
As for getting your own domain (gayconservativeliberal.com), please email me (james@jameshenrybailey.com) and I would be happy to let you know how I went about it and to recommend good software and a good designer. [As long as you tell me how you got Andrew Sullivan to link to your blog!]
A few rebuttals:
"the very nature of my blog's name gives me the freedom to take what may seem like contradictory points of view on the major issues of the day"
Agreed. And the very nature of my blog's name should provide me the freedom to remain un-moved by your arguments.
"I've learned that there is no black and white way of looking at our world"
This is, I believe, the key point where you and I disagree: I strongly believe in a black and white way of looking at our world. Good and evil, as perpetrated by man, are very real forces in this world. If you compromise, even slightly, with evil, then evil wins.
"I can also call out white politicians and pundits who have a demonstrably racist slant to their points of view."
Of course. However, you really should call out black and Hispanic politicians and pundits who are racist, sexist and classist as well. In your post about Don Imus, you totally ignore the implications of the kind of publicity lynching that occurred. The fact that Al Sharpton could, with total impunity, call Don Imus a racist and then succeed in leading a campaign to have the man fired, says more about the state of affairs in this country than some old dinosaur spitting out racist drivel. It's positively Stalinist!
"It's not up to Newt Gingrich, a rich white guy, to toss the word ghetto around. It's not up to Anne Coulter to toss the word faggot around either."
And yet it is a free country where freedom of expression is, as of now, still legal. You have no moral standing to say that you can use the word ghetto, but Newt can't. You can say you want to beat the shit out of Ann Coulter, but she can't say "faggot". That's not freedom, my friend. That is total hypocrisy.
"I was using the tragedy there to highlight our country's lemming mentality"
I know exactly what the point of your post was. And it was despicable. I say this with respect- you failed to make any correlation between the massacre and the rest of the post, and ultimately made a mockery of the entire event. I know that was not your intent, but words are words and they mean something. Also, if you had not tagged the item as "Stupid Americans" we would not be having this discussion.
"Think about it, we have terror alerts that cover the spectrum but one day, out of nowhere, a wacko just ended 32 lives in the single bloodiest attack on our soil since 9-11"
Nothing will ever stop these attacks. No matter how strict the gun laws become, no matter how much money you throw at the problem. This man wanted to kill as many people as he could. And he did. And he would have, regardless on the obstacles. If not in the classroom, then in the dorm. If not in the dorm, then at the local restaurant. The local authorities have a lot to answer for allowing him to roam free, and for not shutting the campus down after the initial double murder. And, this should prompt Virginia to re-visit it's own gun laws. Clearly there are additional safe guards that should be enacted. But the idea that America is a land of lemmings and that somehow contributed to the massacre is senseless.
"And then you go on to my blog to pair gay marriage into a debate on guns. JHB, it's my right to be happy and marry my partner and I know you agree with me -- yet that freedom, for you, is tied to the right to buy a gun?"
I must say, I don't understand where this comes from. I never even suggested that the freedom to marry is connected to the right to buy a gun. My point is that liberals, even Gay Conservative ones, always ignore the fact that the second amendment secures our right to keep and bear arms, un-infringed. I went on to question how you can blatantly ignore that secured right while finding all sorts of other rights that are far less evident!
"...to make sure we can still debate the issues and talk about them as adults without resorting to name calling and hostility"
How big of you. GCL, you regularly insult people on your blog. And the original post that prompted this discussion was insulting. I can assure you that my liberal use of "stupid" and "hypocrite" and even the in-elegant "F*ck you!" was totally in the spirit of an article tagged "Stupid Americans".
